As I was reading 10 Ways to Love Yourself (More) in the Modern World, it got me thinking, how am I really doing? Am I starting my day right? Is this what I really want? Do I have everything I need to be successful? Am I taking care of myself? Am I happy? Am I satisfied with the life I’m living?
I asked myself these questions and somehow my answers still surprise me. So I’d like to share you these questions that will help you re-think how you live your life.
How do you start your day?
From the moment you open your eyes, what is the first thought that comes to your mind? Do you reach for your phone, check the time, check your email, check the news or open any social apps? I am guilty of this. As I reach out for my phone to check the time, I check my notifications and before I know it, 1 hour is gone just like that. Starting my day like this is a great way to ruin it. How many times have we heard that starting your day right is crucial to have a great day? And yet we never start our day right.
I searched for ways on how to start your day and I’ve found a video on YouTube that helped me a lot. Stefan James of Project Life Mastery inspired me on how I start my day. I also created my own checklist and I have to smash them before I go on with my day.
There are so many ways you can start your day, here’s how mine looks like: Smile, Express Gratitude, Bathroom Time, Stretch, Drink Water (or wheatgrass or apple cider vinegar mix), Devotion, Write in my journal, Write 10 things I’m grateful for, Affirmations, Visualization, Read a book (1 chapter or article), Turn on my inspirational music/podcast, Prepare breakfast and Shower time.
To avoid myself from using my phone first thing in the morning, I put it far away from my bed. But now that I’ve already developed a good amount of self-control, I put it on my bedside table and I can start my day without reaching for my phone. 🙂
Do you listen to yourself?
We listen to what others say, but do we listen to what our inner self tells us?
We get so affected in what others are saying about us, would what we say to ourselves affects us that way? Are you honest with yourself?
Start by being honest with yourself. So many people say yes when they truly want to say no. We do stuff for other people that we couldn’t care less about just to get their approval or friendship. Let go of the fear that they may not like you or stop liking you if you don’t do what they ask you to do. Remember, you spend time with yourself more than anyone in this world will.
Start listening to yourself before you lose yourself along the way.
Are you taking care of yourself?
In this fast paced world we are living in today, we no longer value the importance of self-care. People are too busy in their jobs, swamped in their problems, too many things on their plate and one day they find themselves burned out. And when that day comes, it doesn’t only affect themselves but the people around them as well. I know this because this happened to me way too many times before.
I used to work 60-70 hours per week, add in house chores, babysitting and random stuff I have to do. Then I have days when I just can’t take it anymore. But one day, I finally took the courage to let go of the things that no longer makes me happy. Jobs that hinder my career growth, negative people that weighs me down, and everything that doesn’t help me grow. It wasn’t easy but I had to do it.
I make time to get a massage, do home-spa treatments, do more things that make me happy and started doing things that I love like creating art, cooking new recipes and discovering new hobbies. I started traveling too, alone. Every time I come home, I am never the same person. I’m better. Because like they said, there are some places in life where you can only go alone.
That’s it! I hope this post will inspire you as it inspired me.
