Ever since I started working online, I have been constantly looking for ways on how to stay productive.
The past months have been a struggle as my energy has decreased due to personal circumstances and I found myself lazier than ever.
How I wish I still had that drive back in 2014 when I was working around 70+ hours each week and I would still be on top of everything. Now, even working 5 hours a day is draining.
Being unable to travel whenever I want to has really taken a toll on me and I really pray that travel restrictions would ease up so we can finally travel again.
Because I’ve been stuck in a funk, I have lost one client and I knew I had to do something.
Here are some things I did to stay productive when I got too lazy to work.
1. Don’t go on a workday without doing any tasks.
It’s easy to let a day pass without working, especially if you love to nap like me. 😅 I found that it’s harder for me to bounce back when I’m in too deep in not working.
When my mom passed away, I took a leave from work for a week and it was a daily struggle to be productive especially since I work in the Creative Department.
Tackle tasks, big or small, on a daily basis. You will be glad when you don’t miss a deadline.
2. Allow yourself to be lazy but make sure you get back to work (even if you have to force yourself)
My lazy hours or minutes are spent watching Netflix, movies, gameplays or scrolling social sites.
I allow myself to be lazy because if I don’t I will feel so overworked or my creativity will suffer.
There was one time I had a hard time planning a content calendar and I got so frustrated because I’ve been doing this task for so long. There’s just not one idea that would come to mind.
So I decided to take a break, allowed myself to be lazy and just gave myself time.
But sometimes, when you do this, it gets so hard to go back to working mode so you need to force yourself to stop being lazy and start working again.
3. Try different things to spark up your productivity/motivation
Listening to music, snacking on your favourites, playing podcasts, read inspirational articles, zen-ify your work table, drink coffee or tea, these are some things you can do to spark up your productivity.
Never underestimate the power of your favourite song or a delicious cup of chocolate drink.
I’ve been having a hard time working around 10am-3pm as I feel that those are the times when my laziness hits so before my motivation to work goes down, I try different things to fuel myself up.
