After a few years full of travels, this is probably the longest I’ve stayed in Butuan. We arrived back in the Philippines last January 2020 from our NY vacation and the city (or maybe the whole Philippines) was on lockdown around March (if I remember it correctly).
I love staying at home but I also love being able to go out and change my work environment. A cafe is high up on my list of places to work but during lockdown, we weren’t allowed to dine in and I literally worked in every corner of our home (go figure LOL).
I’m so grateful that we’re now allowed to dine in again in coffee shops. But as of March 2022, it’s been a long time (and by long time I mean months!) since I’ve worked in a coffee shop. #MumLife
So whether you’re “working from home” (this has a different meaning now as those working in offices now have “work from home days”) or an online worker, here are coffee shops that you can use as “office of the day” when you’re in Butuan.
Historya by Antigo
Historya by Antigo is one of my favorite places to get some work done because the place is cozy, the tables are far apart from each other (this is great especially if you’re concerned about social distancing), and I love their Tuna Panini and Karlang Chips.
They have one of the best and stable internet connection although I encountered a problem with it before but nothing Google can’t fix LOL
Gold n Pearl Bakery Cafe
The BEST Matcha Latte, garlic bread and baked pasta in town. Gold n Pearl Cafe is my go to cafe even though the parking space is limited and it’s mostly the reason why we go to a different cafe.
I love the cozy vibe and the smell (and sound?) of coffee being brewed.
They also have board and card games that you can use if you need a break from work.
True Brew Gourmet Coffee Shop
Chicken parmigiana is a must-try if you will work in True Brew. Finish it off with a mango crepe and you’ll have a great work day ahead of you.
The place is accessible and they also have good internet.
Coffee Project
The most instagrammable cafe in Butuan, no doubt. The decor is spot on and I love the rustic feel of the place. They also have great food and drinks but comes with a steep price.
The wifi password/login comes with the receipt and I think it was limited to an hour only or for a few hours or a day. Not entirely sure if it’s still the same now as it’s been a while since I worked there.
Boy’s (Margie’s)
Boy’s Bar is great place to get some work done and have lunch or dinner.
My top picks are Cha Gio, Pomelo Salad and Vietnamese Chicken.
I love that the place is accessible as it’s near the city proper, parking space shouldn’t be a problem too and you can use your debit card to pay. Some coffee shops only accepts cash so this is our go to cafe when we want a full meal and don’t have any cash with us.
Fulcrum Coffee
Fulcrum serves the best garlic bread (I think they use a different bread than Gold n Pearl) and they have more delicious foods to offer in their menu like their Axle Chili Hotdog, Wine Drunk Sausages, and my all time fave Hinge Grilled Chicken Sandwich.
I’ve worked in all of their three locations: Watergate, SM City and Robinson’s Place and my favorite is their branch in SM City.
Mysa Cafe
We’ve recently discovered this little gem while looking for a place to hang out and we had a great time as well as getting work done.
Internet connection is great but the parking can be hard unless you visit on a weekend.
There are more coffee shops in Butuan and I know I have missed some because I probably haven’t worked there yet or I had a terrible experience (like that cafe where there’s langaw swimming in my Matcha Latte. Never again. LOL)
