I was reading Here’s How To Turn Traveling The World Into Your Job and it gave me a lot of ideas on how I will run my travel blog.
I just started my own travel blog when I arrived here in Kuala Lumpur and the thought of starting a travel blog a little too late came into my mind. But I realized, even if there are thousands, if not millions, of travel bloggers are already in blogosphere, there can still be a room for one more.
Why? Because each of us are unique. How are we unique? By being ourselves.
I like to blog and write articles that feels like I’m talking to another person. Through this travel blog, two readers have reached out to me and asked for my help on how they can make a living out of writing.
Making a living out of writing is not impossible, but it is not easy. Especially if you are planning to earn money from your blog. I have started four blogs before and eventually I have to give up the other two because I couldn’t prioritize them anymore.
But since I always travel, I thought I should start my own travel blog. This would be easier to manage because I am already traveling and I love taking pictures.
Before you can be a travel blogger, first you need to have your own blog.
Please stay away from free hosting sites, they don’t look professional. If you’re planning to turn your blog into a serious business, make sure it looks professional and fun, ofcourse! 🙂
Once you have found the perfect hosting provider to house your blog, now it’s time to choose your blog name. And there’s no better way to explain this than sharing Ashley’s quote:
“A domain name is more than just a URL; it’s your brand. So do your research before picking one. Make sure your domain name is able to grow with you, too: ‘Anna in Barcelona’ might be difficult once you stop living in Barcelona.”
—Ashley Fleckenstein, Ashley Abroad
After you have chosen your blog name, it’s now time to make your blog look pretty.
You can do this on your own like I did. It is very easy to set up a blog, at least it is for me because I have built a lot of blogs given that I have been helping people build and maintain their websites since 2011 but if you’re absolutely new at this, you can hire a designer and have them setup your blog.
I believe that instead of spending too many hours building your own blog and wasting your precious time, you can hire an expert that falls within your budget and have them do the job for you while you work on things that you are more familiar with.
After you have finished designing your blog, now’s the fun part, writing your very first post! 🙂
There is no rule as to what topic you should write about for your first post. But maybe an introduction would be a great start. You can share your story and what brought you to start your own travel blog.
I hope I have inspired you to start your own blog!
Cheers,
RJ Lyn
