I was reading What Life Is Like When You Make $25,000 a Month from Writing by Tim Denning and it really inspired me to write about my experience writing for 8 happy years.
I can’t remember when I first loved writing but even when I was still a child, I loved writing letters to my parents. Then I learned about poetry and fell in love with it.
I never thought I would be doing writing for a living so I am very grateful for this opportunity to be able to do what I love.
I started my journey as an online writer in 2011 and I couldn’t keep count of how many articles I’ve written. I used to write five articles a day to be able to save money to travel to Europe to experience snow. I did that for six months. And it made me realize that you can really do what you put your heart and mind into.
After reading the article by Tim, it made me question myself, what am I writing for? Why do I write? What is my purpose for writing blogs and articles?
And the answer has been the same.
To be able to help my family and the people who needs it most.
I don’t earn much, yet. But I can’t complain either. All I need is my laptop, a good internet connection and a motivated mind to be able to write and earn from it.
And earning is just a bonus.
I write on this blog not for money, as I am not earning money from this blog, yet. I am writing here to dump my thoughts, learnings and hopefully inspire people who reads any of my articles. I earn money from writing different forms of content for companies and brands.
Living My Dream Job
Wouldn’t it be nice to do what you love and get paid to do it?
That is writing for me.
One of my favourite places to write is the beach. A few years ago, I traveled to Panglao Island and stayed there for a week. I stayed near the beach and so I would walk every morning to a beachfront cafe and check my emails from there. I would spend a few hours working after I have my breakfast, take a dip in the ocean, bask under the sun while reading a book, spend a few more hours working after I have my lunch and enjoy the beautiful sunset while walking along the shore.
It would be so nice to be able to do that all the time but reality calls. I love spending time with my family and the bills add up no matter how small they are. Time is luxury so I really want to spend it wisely. While I could rent a place near the beach and work from there, I couldn’t bring my family and friends. Maybe in the future I would be blessed to own a beachfront property, who knows. 🙂
Getting Stressed
Just because you’re doing what you love doesn’t mean you don’t get stressed. Deadlines make me anxious especially if I am not motivated to write.
Whenever I feel like stress is creeping in, I go for a massage, work in a different place, listen to my favourite songs, take a break, watch movies or series, read an article or a book, clean my room or the kitchen or do anything that takes my mind off the task.
Never Stop Learning
Reading is my favourite way of learning new stuff. Most especially, personal development. I read a lot of articles about personal growth and trends that help me hone my skills and be better in what I do.
I also make sure to write in my journal every day so I could look back and read about my days to see how far I’ve come. It inspires me whenever I read an old entry where I prayed for something and it becomes a reality.
Writing For A Living
I breathe poetry for a living. This was a line from my social media bio. I would love to write more and inspire more people. I could see myself writing for the years to come and still make a living out of it.
Perhaps earn as much as Tim does. 🙂 Or maybe more. But all because of my ultimate goal. To help my family and the people who needs it most.
