Social media has become a huge part of our lives and even to businesses today. Before I started working as a social media manager, I started as a researcher and eventually became a writer. I am going to be honest and say that one of the struggles I encountered while writing was creating an original content for my clients. It was easy to rewrite and curate articles from already published blogs but the problem was, it lacks originality. Being original today is very important as most articles you find in the web are either rewritten content or just spun articles. Which is why I am writing this post to help fellow writers or individuals create an original content for their blogs and websites.
Shall we begin? 🙂
Research, Read, Research, Read, Research.
I can never emphasize how important it is to research about your topic before writing an article. The last thing you want to do, is share content that’s irrelevant or wrong information because you will lose your credibility. And when you research, make sure to read thoroughly.
Yes, I skim a lot especially on longer blog posts that’s more than 1,500 words.
The problem with skimming while reading is you might miss an important detail about your topic. So instead of reading a couple of articles and skim through them, dedicate yourself in reading at least 3 articles and read them word by word! 🙂
Create Key Points
As a reader, I like posts with headers and subheadings as it makes it easier to read a blogpost. And it helps me find the content I’m looking for easily.
Keep this in mind while creating a post. As a writer, I pick a topic first, create several titles, and make at least 5 key points so I will not miss any important information in my article. This way, you will also know the flow of your articles. It will make it organized and it won’t seem like thoughts are scattered like pizza toppings.
Use Images (And while you’re at it, use GOOD ones!)
Most shared content in social media are visual content. When you share a blogpost, it will be better if the image included is something relevant to your article.
I have made the mistake of not using a relevant featured image so it shared my Instagram photo along with the article. I had to delete everything manually and I was so bummed about it!
It doesn’t only look silly (not to mention time consuming!) but it also gives the wrong impression to your readers and possibly future clients. In short, it’s bad for your image and business.
Also, another important thing to keep in mind when adding images in your posts is to find high quality ones. If you don’t have budget to buy credits or images in well-known photo sites, there are free high quality images in the internet and my favorite is definitely Pexels! 🙂
Add Your Style and Personality In Your Writing
This is one of the factors that will make your article original and stand out from all the other posts across the internet.
Adding your style and personality when writing will resonate a great impression to your readers and it will help you in a way that they’ll feel you’re really talking to them (and you know what you’re talking about!).
You will attract the right audience and gain subscribers that will probably visit your site regularly.
Spun articles and rewritten content sometimes lack in this area so it usually sounds very generic. Don’t be afraid to write in your style because like in branding, having your own voice is just as important as having a unique tagline or logo.
Share Your Thoughts and Opinions
What makes your article original aside from the points I covered earlier, is when you share what you know or what you’ve experienced.
I have written this article based on my experience as a writer and even if I am not the best at it (yet!), it shows that I really know what I’m talking about.
When you write about something, it is best that you have something original to add to it. I am a huge fan of writers and bloggers who are opinionated in their posts or share personal experiences as I know I cannot find anything similar in the internet.
I hope you will find this article useful and if you have other tips on how to write an original content to share in social media, feel free to share it in the comment section below!
